To be in Greece is to experience diversity
Greece is ideal for sailing because it is surrounded by four different seas. The Ionian Sea, the Aegean, the Sea of Crete and the Mediterranean do not just differ by their names. The colour of these seas and the temperature of their waters is different, and if you go diving you find that each has its own special underwater landscape. Crete in the far south is the warmest region - the African coast is not so far away.
Greece has many Blue Flag beaches. This designation means that they are particularly clean, meet high environmental standards and are regularly inspected. You can enjoy local hospitality in little beach tavernas or charming country restaurants. Greek cuisine is Mediterranean-style and light, and of course there is always fresh fish on the menu.
From west to south – authentic Greece
If you would like a sailing trip from the west of the country, you could start in Corfu, Preveza or Lefkada. Enjoy a day or two on land before you go aboard the sailboat you have chartered. You will be amazed by the diversity of the country. Look round Athens before you set off from Kalamaki harbour, there are fascinating treasures from history and fine sights to see.
The Cyclades – where Poseidon had his home
The Cyclades provide the most diverse sailing area that you can find in Greece. They comprise some 220 islands, including tiny islets, and between them they offer vibrant night life, contemplative calm and marvelous beaches of soft sand. Cruise through a most picturesque seascape and find an anchorage in a quiet bay. As always there is ancient culture to be found, but modern tourist attractions are also available. Sail on to the Dodecanese group, which includes the largest island, Rhodes. You can anchor in a hidden, isolated inlet or a marina, and enjoy sun, sea and tranquillity. If you want to be among people, as everywhere in Greece there are varied and interesting desinations to visit.
